Biozone
Air Purifiers vs.
Air-Zone®
Air
Purifiers
Here
is comparison of Biozone vs. Air-Zone Air Purifiers.
Claims
of the Biozone Air Purifiers:
Removes
Allergens and Pet Dander
Biozone claims
to remove allergens and pet dander. We know that HEPA
filters remove dust, pollen, and pet dander. They do so by collecting
them in the filter so that they can be collected and removed from the home.
If Biozone units
are claiming to "remove" this type of particulate matter, we would like
to ask:
Where do the
allergens go? The term remove means to take away. Take away from the air?
But that would
mean they are still in the room. So what do they mean when they state
their machines "remove" allergens.
They HAVE to go
SOMEWHERE! we would like to ask:
Where
exactly do the allergens go?
We believe that
ionizers do not "remove" dust and particulate matter from a room,
they simply move them around the room.

work.
Kills
Viruses, Bacteria and Deadly Germs
Kills
Mold, Mold Spores and Mildew
This could be
true if they use enough ozone. However here the key is to use enough
ozone.
All bacteria,
viruses, and mold can be killed by certain levels of ozone.
Since Biozone
will not reveal the ozone output of their air purifiers how can we know
how powerful they truly are? One would think if they had a substantial
ozone output they would be glad to state their ozone output in the industry
standard measurements, like we use, of milligrams per hour output of ozone.
The fact they
state they only put out a "safe" amount of ozone.
What does that
mean and how can we possibly compare it to another ozone generator unless
they list the amount of ozone their units put out?
They claim it
is no higher than 20 mg.hr in their largest units. That's not very much,
certainly not enough to kill all the bacteria in a room.
We show that our
Air-Zone®
units will will kill mold and bacteria.
These studies
can be seen on our Ozone
Bacterial and Mold Killing Studies
web page.
It is very important
to note that specific levels of ozone must be maintained in a room, for
specified periods of time in order to effectively kill bacteria.
For example, e-Coli
bacteria can be killed by ozone ONLY IF the ozone ppm level remains at
0.28ppm for a period of 120 minutes. That was documented HERE by Penn State
University.
There are a couple
of points to be made here.
First that level
of ozone must cover the ENTIRE room. A 0.28ppm ozone level coming out of
a front of a machine will not be nearly at that level 5 feet from the machine.
Secondly the highest
level of ozone that a person is recommended to be in the room with is 0.05ppm.
That is considered the maximum "safe" level of ozone.
So it would seem
that, according to the Penn State University test e-Coli bacteria can be
effectively killed by ozone if a higher that accepted level of ozone was
maintained in a room for at least two hours time.
That is why Air-Zone
Ozone Generators have the ability to perform
High
Ozone Shock Treatments in unoccupied rooms.
That is precisely
why our units have the ability to be turned up to ozone levels far above
those which are considered "safe". But our units also have the ability
to be turned down to "safe" occupied room levels of ozone because of their
built in burst timer.
In conclusion
if an ozone generator cannot ever rise above air purification levels of
ozone, it would seem to us, according to prominent university tests that
bacteria could not be killed.

What
About Ionization?
|
|
We feel that ionization
does nothing but move bacteria and dust around your room, turn your walls
black, and doesn't kill bacteria. We have never seen a valid test to prove
otherwise.
In fact since
ionization only moves bacteria around the room over time it actually increases
the bacteria and mold count!
For more on ionization
please read our page: Why
Ionization Doesn't Work For Air Purification.
Ionization, even
very high levels of ionization cannot effectively kill bacteria, mold,
or viruses.
Now some manufactures
may claim to have tests stating that it does but be very careful to understand
what facts you are actually reading. Anyone can commission a laboratory
test .
Does that mean
that any lab test is always true? Of course not. That's why we rely on
independent lab testing. The type done by prominent universities, and the
US government.
What
About Biozone's Special Technology?
They state "When
a strong enough ultraviolet light is present, it becomes useful in the
destruction of contaminating organic compounds. Almost all indoor contaminants
are organic, such as toxic volatile organic compounds, dust particles like
dander, hair, dust mite feces, etc."
The destruction
of dust particles by ultraviolet light?
That must be
one VERY strong ultraviolet light.
Notice they they
never say that their machines can achieve this level of ultraviolet
light, only that a "strong enough" light will. What is that level of light?
It must be able to be quantified.
What about what
General Electric states about ultraviolet light on their web site:
CAN
UV LIGHT KILL MOLD?
This is a quote from General Electric
concerning their germicidal UV lamps.
"No. Once mold has already formed, ultraviolet
energy will not eliminate it."
This is the company that MANUFACTURES
ultraviolet lamps, we tend to believe them.
What
is Ozone?
As shown in the
diagram above, simple Oxygen molecules known as O2, can be turned into
Ozone, O3, by the introduction of the high voltage electrical charge given
by an Air-Zone
Ozone Generator.
Ozone is considered
an unstable gas, meaning it cannot exist for more than a very short time.
Very soon after
it is formed, nature forces the third oxygen atom of Ozone to break free,
and oxidize bacteria, viruses and pollutants.
Bacteria, viruses,
and mold are all destroyed by this process.
All that remains
after reactions with ozone are the harmless compounds of pure oxygen (O2),
carbon dioxide (CO2), and hydrogen (H2).
The introduction
of low levels of ozone leads to cleaner air to breathe.
Is
Ozone Safe?
At low levels
ozone is perfectly harmless and safe to breathe. At higher levels ozone
can be used to completely sterilize unoccupied areas infected with large
amounts of bacteria and mold.
Air-Zone
Ozone
Generators have the ability to produce
both very low safe levels of ozone needed to purify air, and they also
can produce the very high levels of ozone necessary to sanitize highly
infected areas when they are unoccupied.
Most ozone generators
either produce too little ozone to be effective, or too much as to be unable
to be used in rooms where people are present.
Air-Zone
Ozone Generators avoid these problems,
and have the unique ability to be used in either type of situation.
How
Do I Know How Much Ozone To Use?
Ozone at low levels
has a fresh, sweet, after a rain storm type odor.
This is the level
recommended for air purification.
At higher levels
ozone will begin to have a chlorine bleach type smell.
When to air begins
to smell like bleach it means that the ozone level is set to high for air
purification, and should be set at a lower ozone setting.
This is very easy
to do with Air-Zone®
Ozone
Generators because of the built in burst timer included with the unit.
Most powerful
ozone machines cannot be set to these low levels of ozone.
Why
Is A High Ozone Output Considered So Important?
If an ozone generator
cannot reach the high levels of ozone needed to sanitize unoccupied rooms
that are extremely infected with bacteria, it is considered no more than
a mere toy.
Most of the low
level ozone generators sold are just that, gimmick items that are considered
toys.
Running a low
output ozone generator for a longer period of time is never as effective
using a more powerful machine.
This is because
the ozone is constantly breaking down, and reverting back to simple oxygen.
Ozone naturally
reverts back to simple oxygen in about 30 minutes.
Ozone cannot
be stored, or made to last for more than a short time.
Small ozone generators
can never "catch up" and create the high levels of ozone needed to kill
extreme infections of bacteria.
If a room has
a bad odor the best idea is to blast it out when no people or animals are
present with a High Ozone
Shock Treatment before using the ozone generator at the low levels
of air purification ozone.
Think of it this
way:
Your car can reach
speeds of 70 miles per hour or more, but that's not the normal speed you
drive.
Yet if your car
could never go above 25 miles per hour, you could never take it out on
the highway, and it would be considered useless. |
