VS. "old style" mica ozone plates |
![]() |
Air-Zone®
does NOT use
cheap MICA ozone
plates in our ozone generators.
We could use this cheap technology
but we choose not to because it is inferior.
ALL Air-Zone®
ozone generators use our US Patented Ozone Elements.
They are in a completely
sealed housing and need no adjustment, unlike outdated mica ozone plate
designs.

Old Style Mica Ozone Plates
While
MICA
is an excellent electrical insulator, the
problem with the mica plates used in most ozone generators is that they
are extremely thin, delicate, and breakable.
They
are typically cut from a sheet of mica less than 1 millimeter thick.
They are used because if they are dropped they will not shatter, but if bent they will snap apart very easily. As seen in the pictures below there are also many natural imperfections in the MICA sheets.
These
types of MICA ozone plates require a delicate, complex installation procedure
to work properly.
Not aligning the plates
PERFECTLY will cause dangerous electrical arcing and eventually transformer
burnout.
Mica ozone plates always shift during shipment. It is important that plates be inspected and properly aligned before operation of a mica plate ozone generator to prevent dangerous electrical arcing, and risking transformer burnout. Look what buyers have said about these old style ozone plates:
Mica Ozone Plate Installation
Mica
Ozone plates are made up of 4 components

To assemble the plate

The screen is sandwiched between the mica plates |
Make sure the inner screen is still square in the middle of the assembled plate |
Leave about 1/2'' of the thin wire lead
coming out of one side of the assembled plate.
When you have finished hold the plate
up to a light to make sure
the inner plate is still perfectly
square inside the mica plates.
Please note that it is normal for mica plates to flake apart.

the mica plates into a 5 plate

generator

because one lead is not making full contact. (A very common mica plate problem)
|
Of course, that's hard to tell once the plates have been installed. ![]() |
It is only the spring steel that holds the mica plates together, so that with any jolt to the machine and they will move. Bump it against anything and they can go out of alignment.
Once the 5 ozone plates are installed BE VERY CAREFUL when moving the machine, or the plates will shift out of alignment.
If that happens
there will be a risk of arcing, electrical shock, or the burning of the
mica material itself.
If the machine
is bumped in any way then the ENTIRE
plate installation procedure must be repeated.
In a 10,000 mg/hr ozone generator there will be 10 ozone plates containing 40 separate pieces that must be kept in perfect alignment at all times.
Look what buyers
have said about these types of old style mica ozone plates:
"Need
to change design so Mica plates will not slide during shipping."
You must even
check the plates even upon arrival of a new ozone generator
to ensure you
plates are set up properly as described.
You must also
check the mica ozone plates EVERY TIME the
ozone generator is moved!
Is this the way an ozone element should be designed?
We don't think so.
Air-Zone®
US
Patented
Ozone
Elements
There is no plate adjustment
needed for Air-Zone®
XT models.
All Air-Zone®
ozone generators use our
US Patented Ozone Elements.
They are in a completely
sealed housing and need no adjustments unlike older
"mica ozone plate" designs.
They can easily be cleaned
and replaced without the constant worry that they are in perfect alignment
like flimsy mica ozone plates that will burn out the ozone generator.

While mica ozone
generators can sometimes cost a few dollars less than a genuine
Air-Zone®
Ozone Generator, is it really worth it in the end?
The added maintenance
and constant realignment of primitive mica ozone plates soon makes the
possible initial savings of the few dollars seem insignificant.
When they have
to be replaced mica ozone elements will generally cost $40.00 per plate
or more because of multilevel dealer markup.
Our patented
ozone elements will last longer and cost far less.
Some companies
are claiming that mica ozone plates are superior. There is no patent on
a simple mica ozone plate. They are made with cheap screening material
and very thin sheets of mica.
They cost next
to nothing to produce. If mica ozone
plates worked better we would use them.
Why would we
go through all the expense trouble of using a patented ozone element with
gold plating in it if the cheaper, non patented system would work better?
They cannot, by law, use our patented ozone element system.
We
could
use cheap mica or glass ozone plates because that technology is not patented.
We choose not
to use cheap mica and make outrageous profits, we manufacturer a superior
ozone element that costs much more to produce, because it is the right
thing to do.
Air-Zone® has a choice in which system we could produce, other ozone sellers do not.
Many ozone generators
may look similar to a genuine Air-Zone®
ozone generator, but their primitive mica ozone plates, and poorly designed
single transformer system mean they are not going to be as reliable, or
as maintenance free as our machines.
